Life of Agony
We haven’t heard from you guys in a while, what have you all been up to?
ALAN: Once LOA split, we all started working with other musicians and focused on other projects. I started a band called Among thieves with Danny from biohazard on drums. We put out a LIVE record called ‘Soundscam’ in Japan and are releasing a new studio record next year, ironically called ‘Beginning of the End’. LOA is my main focus right now, and Danny & Scott (guitar) are working on the new Biohazard record now.
Do you have a new album coming out/ or do you have any plans for one?
ALAN: LOA has started writing new songs together for an upcoming studio album. The new stuff is so exciting to work on. It’s totally LOA! It’s aggressive, melodic and very intense. It’s still early in the game, but all I can say is I can’t wait for LOA fans to hear this stuff. They are gonna bug the fuck out.
Do you have any plans to tour , and if so where will you be touring?
ALAN: We just got finished with a sold-out tour in Europe and will head out in the states starting late January 2004.
One thing about Life of Agony that I always loved were the Lyrics, in your new material what is the catalyst for your lyrics?
ALAN: Well, without giving anything away…it’s very LOA. It’s the next step for us. It’ deep, and twisted…and real. Like always. If there’s one thing that LOA fans can depend on is the lyrics being real and from the heart. This is the way we release our frustrations and emotional struggles. Hopefully, as with all the other records, fans will be able to relate to the issues we address and find some comfort in knowing that there’s people out there who are going through the same traumatic situations.
How do you find the hardcore scene nowadays compare to when you first started off?
ALAN: It’s a different world now. Heavy bands are now the mainstream. I actually haven’t been to an underground hardcore show in years so I’m not sure how to answer that. I used to love to see the godfathers of the hardcore scene like Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags & Carnivore…but those days are over now. I still love hardcore, but find myself throwing on a Sheer Terror record quicker than one of these new hardcore bands.
Are there any changes in the lineup?
ALAN: LOA is back with the original line-up…Myself, Joey, Keith & Sal. The River Runs Red line-up.
What made you guys get back together?
ALAN: I think over the years we all went through our own struggles and realized how special LOA was to us. I think we all needed to be away from it for some time in order to really appreciate what we had. We overcame our personal differences and became friends again first. Then we became a band again.
What can you see in the future for Life of Agony?
ALAN: Well, we’re all excited about writing this new record together and getting back out on the road to spread the word again. You can count on some killer shows in support of a new album for 2005.
