Interviews

Disharmonic

Disharmonic is a brutal hardcore band from Volos City, Greece. Everything¬†started at December 2001. Disharmonic were John, Anestis and Teo. They recorded a demo called ‘Unholy Remains’ at September 2002, including 4 tracks of raw and old school thrash/death/core music. I joined the band at April 2003. We released a new demo at October, called ‘Kick Over The Traces’ and played various shows with hardcore/punk and metal bands all over Greece.

What is like being a hardcore/metal band in Greece, what kind of scene is going on there. Do many foreign bands play?
-Our scene is growing bigger day after day. The last 3 years many foreign bands visited Greece and we had the chance to attend many shows. But there are more things to be done if we want our scene to become stronger. First of all we have to open our mind and eyes and get more into the hardcore spirit, because a hardcore scene means more than just music. The good point is that some guys take this seriously, so I hope that the situation will be better in the future.

You’ve a very raw thrasy metal-hardcore sound, what bands influence you?

-We play brutal hardcore, although the production of our CD is too raw (and shitty in my opinion). Many bands have influenced us, from various styles of music. I listen to all-styles hardcore, John is more into brutal death/grind, Teo listens to hardcore andOpeth and Anestis is into nu-metal/hardcore. So we try to make a combination of our influences

What’s the last CD you listened to, was it any good?

-I just listened to Pelican and Keelhaul. They sound like progressive noise rock/core, I can’t describe it! They are great, though. One of the best CDs I listened to recently is Last Hope’s ‘My Own Way’, check it out!

If I were to look thru your CD collection would I find any embarrassing albums?!!
Hmm That’s a difficult question. Even though I have some albums that I don’t like them as much as others, I can’t say that they are embarrassing. I always try to find the good parts of each one, everything has something to give us.

Am I right in saying Apostolis does Humanflies Productions ‚Äì have you any other releases apart from your own CD ‘kick over the traces’?
‘humanfliesXprodaxionz’ was a distro. I say ‘was’ cause I quitted it some days ago. I’m so sad about it but I couldn’t continue for various reasons. This doesn’t mean that I stop promoting hardcore music and helping bands. My distro co-produced Arsenico’s new CD (Torino ‚Äì Italy melodic hardcore) and produced 2 compilations with hardcore/metalcore bands from Greece. Soon, my new comp. ‘Project: Unity’ will be released, including great HC bands from all over the world.

What kind of reaction are you getting to ‘kick over the traces’?

-We got some good reviews, but we got some bad ones, too. You know, the production of the CD is a bad point for us. We didn’t expect to get some, only to spread our name everywhere. Our next release will be better and more ‘professional’

Your quitarist Anestis joined the army?? Where does that leave Disharmonic at the moment?
Anestis is doing his military service, this is obligatory in our country. You have to join the army for 12 months. Anestis has been there for 3 months already. This is a big obstacle for us, but we are going to overcome it. We continue rehearsing new songs and play live as more as we can

What’s your opinion on what’s happening in Iraq?

The war in Iraq is another authority’s war. We live in a fucked up system and the governments have to make wars and kill people in order to control more territories. Unfortunately, many wars will follow in future unless people get the power in their own hands and live united and peacefully.

What’s coming up for Disharmonic?

We are going to record 4 new tracks for a new release this summer. We are searching for an underground label to help us in promoting our music. Also, we arrange some live appearances in Greece for the summer period.
