Interviews

Loved and Hated

Loved and Hated are a band made up of Jimmy Colletti (on vocals) and Rob Kabula (on bass) both from Agnostic Front, Larry Nieroda (on guitar) – ‘Larry the Hunter ‘ from Son of Skam and Mike Rennse (on drums) from Minor Disturbance. They’ve one EP out – Camoflague EP – on Kinfisher Records in Europe and Jimmy’s own Believe Records in the USA.

How long has Loved and Hated been in the making?
(Jimmy) It’s hard to say, I’ve had the songs for a while. We don’t get to practice to often right now but we just started playing shows. Now I have to take a break while we are doing the new AF record.

How have the shows been going, what kind of reaction are you getting?
(Jimmy) The shows have been great, nothing but good feedback.

You played Madball’s last show, how was that?
(Jimmy) A great show, we’ve definitely been getting a lot of calls since then. Someone made a video of it and it sounds great.
A girl I know is dubbing them and maybe starting to sell them. Check back on www.lovedandhated.com in the future.

What kind of reaction are you getting from the camoflague EP (your message board seems really positive)?
(J) The ep is doing well. We will re-record it for GMM/Victory this summer. As soon as AF gets out of the studio, we go right in.

With all you guys in other bands, what a are your touring plans – any chance of seeing you over in Europe?
(J) Yes. As soon as AF does it’s initial tours for the new record, Loved and Hated will try to hit the road.

Talking of you all being in other bands, will L&H be a ‘side project’ or can we see an album soon?
(Larry the hunter) It’s not a side project. We work as hard at this one as we do in any projects. Every band has busy and not so busy periods, you just gotta hope that all the bands busy periods don’t coincide. As far as an album, it is already written. We are just waiting for the ep to pick up a little steam.

Jimmy, had you done any ‘front-man’ stuff before L&H or this a first?
(J) Yes and no. For any band that I am in I usually do the vocals for pre-production anyway because I write the meters and melodies and the arrangement of songs.

How do find it being out front, and not sitting down behind a drumkit?
(J) It’s definitely different…all eyes on you whether your singing or not. You also take more of the credit or the shame from a good or bad show.

Upcoming plans for L&H…
(J) Working out some touring and definitely a full length.

What took you so long to get out from behind the drums in AF, and get a  guitar & singing in L&H ?!!!
(J) Time. Being in a working band like AF takes up a lot of your time whether your playing or not.

Is your label ‘Believe’ got any upcoming releases planned?
(J) I don’t think so. Believe is my label and if not for friends lending me money I would be homeless right now. It costs a lot of money to put things out. I don’t have the money. Who knows about the future though.

How did you get the name ‘Larry the Hunter’ !!  (probably an obvious answer!!)
(L) Yep, you got it. I hunt with a gun or a bow as much as I can. Mostly deer, sometimes turkey. I also fish as much as possible. Every day that I can get my ass out of NYC that is! I love the woods and the water and I believe in conservation to the fullest degree. All hunters are not pigs, if it weren’t for hunters there would be no forest left in the US and no endangered species protection at all. Kabula is also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Last words are yours….
(L) We are thinking about recording some old cover tunes in our rehearsal studio. Just a bunch of cool tunes we’ve always liked…hardcore, classic rock shit, whatever. We will either do a limited release of it for as cheap as possible or just put up the mp3’s up on the website and let everybody download them for free.
