The latest album from Swedish Crust punks Victims “Sirens” is out!, released in April 2016 and it’s been 5 years since we had any new music from these guys. We’ve been given 12 tracks of grinding crust/hardcore remind us just what we’ve been missing.
We have the classic Swedish guitar sound, plenty of melody, lots of speedy D-Beat drums, and the throat ripping vocals. It’s all here and it’s great. The track “Storm” is classic Victims, but there are some new elements to their sound too. Title track “Sirens” is more measured, dynamic and controlled giving us something a little different.
It’s not a huge departure from their previous work, but the one thing difference with this record is the slight release of their collective foot from the accelerator pedal, the overall record here seem slightly less frantic. I feel like they’ve shuffled a little closer to sounding more like Tragedy with this record, which is no bad thing. This band clearly love what they’re doing, they’ve been doing it for a long time now, and they deserve their place alongside Disfear, Wolfbrigade, and Skitsystem, as Sweden’s best crust bands.
