Backfire! come from Maastricht, Netherlands, and are one of Europes longest running hardcore bands. Even through tough times like their drummer Richard sadly taking his own life, and the general hardships of balancing a band, work and family they have still remained at the forefront of the euro scene. 2008 seems them return as a five piece (adding Dave from Angel Crew) and with a new album "In Harms Way", brought out on GSR Music and plenty of touring to follow later in the year. Guitarist Wyb took some time out to update us on all things Backfire!

20 Bulls Each are heading off to the US in August for a tour, and HT are joining them, to drive, takes pics (no one or thing will escape the lens!!) and document it.

So we last talked in 2005, what have you been up to since then?
Paul became a Satanist, Gav killed 5 men in a salami eating contest, I survived having a nuke dropped on me from space and we found a child called Ciaran on the side of the street and decided to keep him. In other words, we've played a million gigs and recorded an album called Lost Causes.

H_skaretacticjpg.jpg
Bursting from the seams of the frenetic LA hardcore scene is skare tactic. spearheaded by a deep love for the staples of traditional hardcore (madball, agnostic front, sick of it all, etc.) coupled with a fresh grasp of the newer styles by such torchbearers as hatebreed, terror, and death threat, skare tactic has forged a blazing path of hardcore force and brutality that the west coast hasn't produced in quite some time.

skare tactic employ a relentless tour ethic and propel themselves as an unyielding self-promotion machine. skare tactic fulfill their touring goals and spread their hardcore reality to as many as will receive it. spring 2003 saw skare tactic's first U.S tour and the band was met with much praise and appreciation.

skare tactic deliver fast-paced hardcore with heavy and crushing breakdowns to ease the pace now and then. rough, aggressive, vocals, and calculated backing vocals laden with shouts and chants round off the impact that is a skare tactic song. and when the band plays live, expect an even more focused display of tenacious, unbridled passion and aggression, as these tattooed monsters absolutely destroy in the live setting.

Not just a city in the West Bank
While sitting in a car and fielding questions about life and music, a friend of "White Trash Rob" Lind and customer at his work Wicked Tattoos in Garden City, came up to have his hat autographed. It was a strange sight considering that Lind isn't anywhere close to being a rock star, and outside the hardcore music scene, is as unknown as anyone else. But the man who wanted the signature is a big admirer and believer in his band's message.

Welcome to the terror zone: Cold As Life lives on
Jeff Gunnells was having a hard time remembering certain details for a story he was recalling. After trying to conjure up the exact location where the incident had occurred, he gave up and moved on to the next story. "I don't know. I can't even tell you if that was the right address. A lot of the sh-t was a blur; I'm an old man right now," he said with a chuckle.

Sick Of It All are one of the longest running and most well respected hardcore bands. The last time they played Ireland was September 1999, in the Music Centre, a venue with a barricade, a high stage and too much security, and with hundreds of drunken school kids having just gotten their exam results falling around drunk outside!! Now seven years later they are back on our shores, playing a nice small venue with no security and no barricades, and not a drunken kid in sight, well not an exam result in sight anyway! Before they took the place down Gar (20 Bulls Each ) grabbed Lou (vocalist) for a little interrogation, on all things SOIA.

In 2005 When We Fall released thier first ep 'A Cry In Despair' on the swedish label The Emo Foundation. At the moment they are working on thier first fullenght album which hopefully will be released soon. I (Mattias) thought it was time for the readers at Hardcore Times, to get to know this hardcore band from Sweden. The singer Daniel Öhman was game for doing this interview and answered some questions.

How did the recording of "The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here" go? Smoothly? Any problems? What was it like working with Steve Albini?
It went amazingly well. We did a LOT of preperation work in terms of demo-ing the songs before we went in so the studio time wasn't spent arguing over parts or arrangements. It was merely, "we know how this stuff is supposed to go, let's document it." Steve Albini is great. I wish more engineers worked like he did.

Give us a little history on the band for those out there that don't know you.
well to give a brief summary we formed about 4 years ago, when si and myself met and decided to form a band based on our love of punk rock / emo music. si had a friend who played bass, who also knew a drummer. and that was it we were on our way. we started playing shows, recording some records, doing a couple tours of the states went to europe, another record.lots of time with the band doing nothing, then another record and here we are.
